8 Things I Have Learned From Voting In My First Election

It has only been a few days since the Election and I cannot sit back and watch the hate anymore. FROM BOTH SIDES. I can't believe the things I am seeing and I am so disappointed in some of the people that I have admired my whole life, but not for the reason everyone else is so up in arms about. Who you voted for doesn't change my opinion of you. How you react to who won does.

This election has been a dirty, disgraceful doozy, and I am so sad that for a lot of people including myself that this was the first election we got to participate in. So without further ado here are a few things I have learned from participating in my first presidential election.

1. Overly Opinionated = Arrogant
Let's be real for a second. I am all for sharing your opinions and especially having your own opinions, after all this America. But when you start being hateful toward others with differing opinions that is where you start to look like you believe you are above everyone else. Bashing people on Facebook and gloating over a win or calling people names because of who they voted for is unacceptable. Just agree to disagree and move on.

2. Politics Matter
Before this election I, like many other millennials didn't really care about politics. I didn't like seeing people fighting over things. I didn't like the division that it causes. And I didn't like feeling inferior to those who think differently than me. But actually educating myself during this election has taught me a valuable lesson that these things do matter and while I still don't like the things that politics normally bring about, my vote matters. With this election and the extremism of both candidates it has forced a lot of us who didn't care before, to pay attention.

3. Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right
I know I can't be the only one who is tired of seeing people saying that different races are what's wrong with America. I can't even tell you how many different posts I have seen saying "White Christians need to fix America" "White Men are the problem" "Good morning America, except white people you can all die". And on the other spectrum, people of color being beaten and humiliated because of the color of their skin or beliefs. It has to stop. Telling people that they are the problem won't change the fact that Donal Trump will step into the oval office in January. We need to come together and show each other support and love.

4. Fighting with others doesn't change who was elected
This one really speaks for itself. I just know I am tired of being blamed for things that aren't my fault and for things I will never have the power to fix.

5. Either way this election went, I was going to be scared
Again, I'm in shock that these two people were the only real options for our country's presidency. Both candidates possess qualities that terrify me, and either way, whoever won the election I was going to be afraid for our country.

6. Family is important
Unfortunately I have witnessed so many of my family members get in over their heads with anger or pride that they start blaming other family members. I can't stress enough that the blame game doesn't do any good. Instead, coming together and listening and supporting each other's hopes, dreams, wishes and fears will help us understand each other. We are all entitled to our own opinions but just because someone thinks differently than you, doesn't give you the right to disown them, and you can't expect someone to change their views just because you feel a certain way.

7. You can't believe every Facebook post you read
It is no secret that the media has completely blown everything out of proportion, but those of you constantly sharing hateful, untrue posts are just perpetuating the situation.  What good does sending random Facebook posts to people who disagree with you do? Nothing but drive a rift between you and that person. Also, check your facts, a lot of those stories are just opinions or exaggerated facts.

8. Love will always conquer
I can't stress enough that hate will do nothing. We need to come together as a nation and support each other no matter what your political view is. That will send more of a message than anything that we are ONE and we will not be easily divided. Right now we are letting the enemy win. No more division, no more hate.

I purposely didn't share any opinions on politics because I want people to view me as me and not who I voted for. I hope that others will follow me in being kind to EVERYONE, especially those with differing opinions. Now is the time more than ever to come together and show the world that we will not allow any government or leader separate us. I am with anyone and everyone, no matter your Race, gender, sexuality, or religion. No more division.

Casual Couples Valentine's Day Fashion

Hi guys! I am so excited to finally be making a new blog post! This semester of school has already been crazy, but I have finally found some time to update my baby! Thank you all for being so patient with me.

Today on the blog we're talking couples Valentine's Day fashion! If you're looking for a dressy dinner date outfit you've come to the wrong place. My husband and I are totally casual Calvins, (yes, I just made that up.) so unless it's our anniversary, we're probably having a movie night with wings and beer. Sounds like the perfect Valentine's Day date to me! Alright enough rambling, here's what a typical date night outfit looks like for Sean and I.

Thanks for reading! Have a fabulous Valentine's Day!

New Years Lookbook Collaboration

Hello friends! I hope everyone had a beautiful Christmas! I spent my precious time with family and friends, playing Santa with my little guy, eating amazing food and making memories with my loved ones! I can't help but think how fast this year has gone! New Years is quickly approaching, so I decided to throw a little collaboration together with a few other amazing bloggers!

Nikki Davis (@nikkidavisxox) is an adorable fashion and lifestyle blogger that I came across a few weeks ago and she caught my eye! I sent her an email and pitched her on a collaboration and she was so sweet and gracious!

Martha Kay (@northleftcoast) is just about the cutest prep you'll ever meet! Nikki actually told me about her and ever since I saw her instagram feed I was hooked! She has such a unique style and I thought she'd be perfect for this little collaboration!

This is such an exciting, new experience and I can't wait what the blogosphere has in store for us! So without further adieu...

For a girls night out, I went with a  cutout crop top with a pair of high waisted flare pants and a pointy toe heel! You couldn't catch me dead in sequins, which is why I appreciate other women's styles so much, I am a color block, solids kind of girl! Which is why I threw in a little bit of skin to add some flare, not to mention a night out usually ends up hot and sweaty from dancing. I threw on my favorite coat right now for those of you who live in the freezing weather (like me).

A night in, whether it be with your man, your girls or your family is always a good idea, especially on such a party-centric holiday! For this look I paired a shoulder cutout crop top with a black pencil skirt and a lace up heel. This struck me as a more sophisticated look. throw on a coat when you're out and about, grabbing takeout or champagne, and your look is complete.

Like I said before, I like to be flashy at times but sequins and bandage dresses don't fit my personality or lifestyle.

Goals: This year is going to be a big year for me, I can just feel it. I am starting my classes for my major, I'm going on my fourth year of marriage, and my son is going to be 3! But short term fashion  goals include, working with a few local clothing brands, going to more fashion events and growing my following on my new baby Blacks and Ivory. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Be safe, have fun, and most of all, feel good in your own skin!

This look is definitely more my style, I'm obsessed with the oversized messy look, so that's a lot of what this look entails. I LOVE putting fur together with different pieces, (it's also so cozy)!! This look is perfect for going out & standing out with this form fitting dress and bold white fur vest!!

Ahh, I've totally fallen in love with this dress ever since I've gotten it. Although this outfit isn't super dressy, it's definitely trendy (especially when you're piecing it together with the leather)! The good thing about this look it can be dressed down with the jacket or dressed up by taking it off, your choice!

My last look is pretty similar to my first, but it definitely reflects my style. Both looks have a tighter form with an oversized coat / vest. Also, these short tops and mid skirts have definitely been two of my favorite things to mix & match recently!

Hey everyone! Happy New Year! I'm so excited to be collaborating with two of my favourite bloggers for this post and to share a couple party-appropriate outfits with you!

This first look features sequin pants, a white flowy top, a black blazer and white pumps. Like Ella, I have never owned a ton of sequin clothing! And honestly, I rarely wear black. So this look is definitely a step outside my comfort zone. But that was exactly my intention! I wanted to try something a little edgier than what I'm used to. In the end, I really liked it! I can't say the pants were the most comfortable pants I've owned...but I guess that's not the point! They were definitely fun and they felt very NYE appropriate.

My second outfit is something I would wear for a quieter party - maybe a dinner with friends or cocktails at a lounge? It's definitely a classy and versatile look that can be dressed up or down with accessories. In this case I kept things simple and wore pearl earrings and white heels.

Thanks for reading and have a great New Year's Eve everyone!!

Thank you for taking some time out of your day to read! We had a blast putting this together! Have a fabulous new year!

Deep Clean Make Up Brushes

Hello Everyone! I hope you're having a fabulous day, wherever you are! Today I was doing my make up and I realized my brushes were SUPER cakey. Not cute. Like it was to the point where It was affecting the application of my makeup. Then it hit me, I had never actually washed my brushes. Yeah, I've tried here and there, but if you're anything like me, and procrastination is your middle name, then you'll completely understand. I finished my routine and then gathered my brushes and started messing around with a formula to DEEP CLEAN my brushes. Not just run them under water with baby soap, and to my surprise I found an amazing solution.

I poured about 2 table spoons of dish soap into a bowl with 1 table spoon of olive oil, then one by one dipped my brushes into the combination and in a circular motion rubbed the brushed on the sides of the bowl. After I would lay them on a paper towel to soak for a few minutes while I cleaned out the bowl and put a paper towel in the bottom for them brushes after I rinsed them out. After a few minutes of soaking, under lukewarm water I rubbed the brushes in a circular motion on my palm. Some brushes (especially my foundation brushes) needed a little bit more attention, so I just poured a few drops of dish soap on my palm and rubbed the brush in the soap.

As You can see, my brushes were nasty. It was beyond time to clean them! After I rinsed all of my brushes I am so happy! they look brand new again! I honestly forgot when they looked like clean!

As for my beauty blenders, I just ran them under lukewarm water and put dish soap on them and scrubbed until the water ran clear!

Seriously this was such an easy procedure! No expensive brush cleaner, no more cakey brushes!
Just a 2:1 dish soap to olive oil solution and a little bit of patience!

Thanks for reading I hope this helps for future brush cleanings!

Cold Fall Weather

Happy Monday Ya'll! I know it sounds crazy because christmas music is blasting everywhere you go, the days are cold and it feels like winter, but technically it's still Autumn, at least for a few more weeks. A long cold winter is coming. So today we're talking cold Fall weather!

You can never go wrong with an oversized sweater with some leggings or Jeggings, right? This over sized sweater is the warmest, coziest thing I own! I got it on sale at H&M last year and I wear it ALL THE TIME! Pair it with some boots and a beanie to keep your ears warm and you're a cold weather queen!

As you probably know by now, Chunky scarves are just amazing! This scarf is by far my favorite this season and on top of being adorable, it's so warm! Throw on a jacket and and you're ready to go!

Thanks for reading everyone! Have a fabulous week!

November Favorites

Hello everyone! This past week has been absurdly crazy with finals and work, so I neglected to post my favorites for November. Please forgive me. But never fear, here they are! Remember if you want to try something just click the picture and it will take you to the product! Also, if there is a product you would like for me to try leave me a comment and I'll give it a try!

Bath and Body Works
Pumpkin Pecan Waffles Candle

This candle is quite possibly the best smelling thing I've ever owned. I'm pretty sure I bought three of them because of how fast I burned them. Unfortunately the big 3-wick version is out of stock on their website, but I've left the link for the room spray!

 Not Your Mother's Dry Shampoo

I almost never wash my hair. Okay that sounds totally gross, but with how much I bleach it, if I wash my hair everyday it'll fall out. So dry shampoo is a must. I wash my hair and then dry shampoo for a few days until it's time to wash my hair again.

Bath and Body Works Eucalyptus Spearmint Stress Relief Pillow Mist

This was my best friend through finals week!! After a long night of making study guides and writing term papers and finishing up presentations, it's hard to relax and get some much needed rest. I few sprays of this magical potion and sweet dreams here I come!

Joico Color Balance Purple Shampoo

I constantly get asked how I get the purple hue in my hair, well here's my secret! This shampoo is amazing! I wash my hair with my regular shampoo and then lather this purple wonder into my hair and let it sit for a few minutes while I shave or wash my body! Voila- Purple hue!

L'oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

I bought this just to try it because I heard fret things about it and oh boy is it great! I apply this and then my BareMinerals BareSkin foundation for a gorgeous full coverage look!

Thank you For taking the time to check out my favorites from November! Again let me know if there are any products you'd like for me to check out!
